Chapter 5 Communications
5.1 Internal communications
Email and MS Teams are our primary methods of communication. During regular work hours, it is expected that you have MS Teams open to receive messages/calls. For optimal communication, we recommend downloading the MS Teams desktop app.
We understand that certain tasks, such as writing manuscripts or analysing data, require deep concentration. In such cases, feel free to change your status to “busy” to indicate that you are not available for immediate messages or calls (Emily will just call you if your profile has a green dot!). Similarly, if you are in a meeting or otherwise unavailable, please adjust your status accordingly to reflect your availability.
5.2 Group Meetings
Every second Tuesday @ 2:00pm (UK): CAMARADES Lab meeting
- Team members provide a reflection on the previous two weeks (what’s went well, what hasn’t went well)
Every second Tuesday @ 9:30am (UK): Global CAMARADES morning meeting
Every second Tuesday @ 2:00pm (UK): Global CAMARADES afternoon meeting
- The global meeting is a chance to update the wider CAMARADES network on exciting news, opportunities, and developments. This is also a chance to raise questions. If you are stuck on something, it can be helpful to ask for the thoughts of this wider group with a range of varied expertise. If your question leads to an in-depth discussion, it’s best to arrange a time to talk separately with those with expertise to advise you rather than taking up too much time in the meeting.
In addition, you will typically have a scheduled 1:1 meeting every 2 weeks with a senior member of the team to discuss career development, progress, and barriers (see supervisory meetings in the culture section).
5.3 CAMARADES collaborators
You can find a list of people we frequently work with on our University of Edinburgh website.
5.4 Mailing lists
Make sure you are signed up to the Edinburgh Neuroscience mailing list. Emails are typically sent every Monday. If you don’t think you are receiving these, contact Marja at Edinburgh Neuroscience.
You also need to be on the CAMARADES Global mailing list. Contact Sarah McCann from CAMADRES Berlin to be added.
